Nutritional value
Roughage is a valuable and relatively cheap raw material for milk. By producing as much milk as possible from roughage, your feed costs will be minimised.
Optimising your roughage stocks is only possible if you know what exactly you are feeding. The food value for each type of silage has to be clear - including the amounts of minerals and trace elements contained in it. If rations contain insufficient minerals and trace elements, this is going to cost you money. Think, for example, of reduced fertility, less than optimum development of young cattle, or a poor start to lactation. So make sure you know exactly what roughage you are feeding and what supplemental feed you should give to obtain optimum nutrition.
