Bystander Exposure Studies
This unusual series of pictures show a Bystander Exposure study conducted by our Global Exposure Assessment team recently in Greece.
Residents living near agricultural fields, or passers-by, may be exposed to pesticides drifting from fields after application to different field crops – Bystander Exposure studies are an important part of assessing the level of risk in these situations.
The mannequins (child and adult size) are placed in the field at specific distances from the edge of the row downwind from application site. The mannequins are dressed in cotton ‘dosimeters’ and fitted with a personal air sampling pump to measure the potential dermal and inhalation exposure to any people in the area during the application.
