COVID-19 PCR testing is a highly sensitive method that allows the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in individuals who are suspected of having COVID-19. These individuals are most likely symptomatic although symptoms and their intensity could differ from one individual to another.
 
The antibody test for SARS-CoV-2 will detect the antibodies produced by the immune system as a response to the infection. Individuals who presented symptoms in the past but were not tested for the virus or individuals who live in high prevalence areas, should be tested with this method to confirm previous exposure to the virus and current disease status.

Positive AB testing is not a guarantee of protection against a new infection by SARS-CoV-2. More studies correlating serological testing with seroneutralization are required to understand the individual’s immunoprotection.
