BREXIT - What does it mean to manufacturers (based both in the UK and in the EU)?

The European Commission has a new website on the evaluation of food contact materials (FCMs) where you will be able to find all the information about the process and results. The evaluation is expected to be completed by 2020.

The aim of this evaluation to assess to what extent the current EU legislative framework for FCMs is fit for purpose and delivers as expected. Finally it will provide a basis on which the Commission can consider what, if any, possible steps need to be taken in the future concerning the regulation of FCM in the EU.

The final negotiation is, of course, still underway, but there is an agreement in principle where various clauses have been agreed by both UK / EU. These agreed clauses reiterate that there will be one test, carried out in one location but relevant in both the EU and UK. Testing carried out in the UK to existing standards will be valid in the EU and vice versa.

This is also the aim after the transition but that is further away in terms of agreement. Eurofins will monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates on this position.
