New guide on nanoscience and nanotechnologies
On 4th July 2018, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published the “Guidance on risk assessment of the application of nanoscience and nanotechnologies in the food and feed chain: Part 1, human and animal health” after the public consultation did during the first quarter of this year. Now it is in pilot phase and it will be finished by the end of 2019.
The aim of this guidance is to help to evaluate the safety of nano-applications in areas as food contact materials, food and additives, pesticides and novel foods.

New EFSA Scientific opinion for food contact materials
On 20th July, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) published the Safety assessment of the substance Poly ((R)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐(R)‐3‐hydroxyhexanoate) for use in food contact materials.
EFSA concluded that the substance poly((R)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐(R)‐3‐hydroxyhexanoate) is not of safety concern if used alone or in blends with other polymers for contact with dry/solid food.

New Packaging law to improve the Circular Economy The next 1st January 2019 Germany’s new packaging law will be become effective. The aim of this law is to improve recycling rates of packaging and to prevent packaging waste. |
Another requirement is the registration of the company in a centralized packaging registry (www.verpackungsregister.com) before dispatching packaged goods into commerce.
