The EU-commission has released Regulation (EU) no. 2018/213 that significantly tightens the restrictions on the use of Bisphenol A in food contact materials. The regulation lowers the specific migration limit for Bisphenol A from 0,6 mg/kg to 0,05 mg/kg and extends the restriction to lacquers and coatings. Furthermore the regulation extends the ban from 2011 on the use of Bisphenol A in products specifically meant for babies and toddlers at the age of 0-3 years. Finally the regulation requires that products with lacquer or coating must be accompanied by a Declaration of Compliance to prove compliance with the food contact legislation.
