New EU RoHS II Directive expands requirements for toys
On July 21, 2011 the new EU Directive 2011/65/EU - known as RoHS II - entered into force. The key elements of the Directive is:
- More product groups than before will be covered by the new Directive.
- One of the important changes is that toys with at least one intended electrical function (electrical power/electromagnetic field) is covered. This means that all electrical toys have to fulfill RoHS II Directive.
- New obligations for the documentation by manufacturers, importers og distributers have been added.
- A CE mark is required for all electrical equipment covered by RoHS II. Thus, CE labeled electrical toys have to comply with RoHS II Directive.
All EU member states have to implement the directive by national law until January 3, 2012.
