Soft-filled toy with sequins intended for all ages
On 6th March 2019, the European Commission published a note about Soft-filled toys with sequins.
This new toy trend has come to the attention of EU market surveillance authorities. Hence, the EU Commission has published this document on the application of Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC (TSD) and the harmonised standard EN 71-1 to this type of toys. The document includes the views of the majority of members of the Administrative Cooperation (ADCO) group of the Expert Group on Toy Safety.
These toys fulfill the definition of soft filled toy and, therefore, are considered as toys intended for children under 36 months. It is prohibited to avoid the small part requirements in Toy Safety Directive by adding the age warning “Not suitable for children under 3 years” or the age warning symbol, since these toys must be safe for children of all ages.
