Fondation Institut Gustave Roussy - Live Better With Cancer

The Gustave Roussy Institute (IGR) is a comprehensive European cancer centre facilitating research and teaching, and treating patients of all ages with all types of cancer. The Institute has expertise in the treatment of rare and complex tumours.

In 2020/2021, the Eurofins Foundation renewed its support for the Fondation Institut Gustave Roussy by providing a research grant to the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Sinus Cancers Project, which aims to study the role of HPV in sinus cancers and evaluate whether immunotherapy could be considered for the treatment of these tumours.

HPV's role is now well known in the development of cervical cancer. It is also a factor in certain cancers of the throat and anus and may be linked to some sinus cancers.

Preliminary findings show encouraging results, which need to be confirmed to start new clinical studies focusing on reducing treatment aggressiveness in HPV positive sino-nasal squamous cell carcinomas.

According to Marion Class, a pathologist at the Institute, “This support allowed our research team, and notably our student, Alexandre Tendron to perform high-quality tissue analyses using innovative technology.”
