Product Chemistry

We provide the full spectrum of chemical and physico-chemical analysis required for your REACH registration

Chemical and physico-chemical studies are conducted from several specialized laboratories around the globe, under GLP, and in adherence with stricter quality requirements enforced by ECHA on a regular basis. Utilizing this network of expertise and capacity, we can meet your timelines providing quality results for even the most complex substances and mixtures.

Characterization and identification of REACH chemicals

In accordance with the REACH tiered data approach, we offer a complete characterization for substance identity and composition as a first step. During this step we also identify all significant and important impurities, especially for mixtures and UVBCs, and detect their limits. If no validated method is available, we can offer a fitting method development and validation, as well as the purchase or the synthesis of the reference material. We can support your project with various methods using highly specialized and state-of-the-art equipment, such as UV/Visible absorption, mass spectrometry, infra-red spectroscopy, NMR or ICP, maintaining ample capacity for storage stability studies as well, if no data is currently available.

Determination of physico-chemical properties

As a second step, physico-chemical properties are determined.  We offer a wide variety of test methods and studies, covering the entire bandwidth of tests needed for all tonnage bands. The tests are in alignment with all relevant official guidelines published by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Economic Community (EEC), Collaborative International Pesticides Analytical Council (CIPAC) or Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC).

These tests include:

  • Physical state at 20°C and 101,3kPa
  • Melting / Freezing Point
  • Boiling Point
  • Relative Density
  • Vapor Pressure
  • Surface Tension
  • Water Solubility
  • Partition coefficient (Flask method or HPLC)
  • Flash Point
  • Flammability
  • Explosive Properties
  • Self-ignition temperature (liquids and solids)
  • Oxidizing properties (liquids and solids)
  • Granulometry (solids)
  • Stability in organic solvents, identification of relevant degradation products
  • Dissociation constant
  • Viscosity

Special Expertise

Our laboratories have in-depth expertise with numerous of substance classes, some of which are classified as difficult to test, such as:

  • UVCB`s and mixtures
  • PFAS
  • Metal complexes
  • Toxic substances
  • Volatile substances
