Cleansing Supply Chains of PFAS ‘Forever Chemicals’

PFAS (Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances), also known as the ‘forever chemicals', are a large chemical group of over 4,500 highly persistent synthetic chemicals that don’t occur in nature.  

PFAS are highly functional chemistries that have been used in consumer products such as textiles and leather for clothing and footwear, in non-stick cookware and in paints and construction materials. Due to their persistence in the environment, PFAS chemicals can be easily transported, covering long distances away from the source of their release. PFAS chemicals are now omnipresent in ecosystems and are found in animals and humans, food, soil, and water. 

Because of increasing concern over the impact and legacy of these chemicals there is mounting legislation around the current and future restrictions surrounding PFAS chemistry.

Dr Victoria Addy

Chief Technical Officer, Eurofins Sustainability Services

Victoria joined Eurofins | BLC in 1992 after obtaining a BSc (Hons) in Biology, before gaining a PhD in Biochemistry. Now Chief Technical Officer for Eurofins Sustainability Services, Victoria oversees sustainable chemistry, biomaterials, leather and novel material development for consumer products, specialising in chemical compliance and supply chain regulatory support.

Anna Nebot Querol

Regulatory Services Director, Eurofins SL-TH Regulatory Services

Anna graduated in Chemistry, from the University of Barcelona in 2002 before completing a master’s degree in Business Management and Environmental Quality.

With more than 20 years of experience in the TIC industry and in the fields of testing and expert services for consumer products, Anna developed and launched an international regulatory department at Eurofins Consumer Product Testing in 2016. As Regulatory Services Director, she is now focused on Softlines, Leather, Toys & Hardlines regulatory-related topics.

Dr Devender Singh

Managing Director, Eurofins | MTS Germany

Devender completed a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Delhi and a PhD and Post-doctoral studies in organic chemistry at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil and the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry, Germany respectively.

After joining MTS Germany in 2013, he specialises in sustainable chemistry, specifically the development of novel methods for the assessment of hazardous chemicals in consumer products.

David Hong

After attending Suffolk University Law School and being admitted to the Massachusetts and New York Bar, David has more than 12 years of experience in the field of consumer product regulations in North American and Asian markets, with a special focus and expertise in the US market.

He provides regulatory and technical support to clients across consumer industries, including textiles, chemicals, toys and hardlines.

Dr Jongsei Park

Toxicologist, Eurofins | MTS

Jongsei received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and has been involved in analytical toxicology, regulatory toxicology, hazardous chemical management and hazardous substance risk management for more than 40 years.

He is a Certified Toxicologist of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology, UK and EU Registered Toxicologist, Listed Toxicologist of US CPSC for review of art materials, and member of the Society for Chemical Hazard Communication.
