Electrical and Electronic Toy Safety Testing

A simple LED, a charger, or a compartment for batteries that can be easily opened may be a potential source of accidents for children when using a toy.

Building on the strong Electrical & Electronic testing network and expertise within Eurofins, we can test electrical toys and their parts to determine their compliance against the different electrical toy regulations and standards that apply worldwide to these products.

Some of the standards included in our service scope are:

  • IEC 62115
  • ANSI/UL 696

Products not meeting the requirements established in the different global regulations and standards are at risk of being recalled and, more importantly, they will be putting children at risk.

On top of the safety of electrical and electronic toys, we complete our offer with additional requirements that can apply to your product considering the regulatory landscape, not limited to:

  • Battery Directive 2006/66/EC
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU
  • Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU

Electrical Safety Testing for Furniture

Furniture with electrical or electronic components must be examined and assessed duly to prevent electrical hazards to users such as electric shock and burns. We can carry out electrical safety testing for furniture goods, including:

High Voltage Test - This test applies a voltage much higher than the operating voltage to measure the high voltage resistance that any electrical component should pass before it can be used.

Insulation Resistance Test - This test determines the overall resistance of a product’s insulation.

Leakage Current Test -The test measures the unwanted leakage current flowing through the surface of insulation to determine if the current between the power source and accessible parts does not exceed the specified limit.

Grounding Continuity Test - The test measures the resistance between the ground and the outer metal body of the product to ensure that the product does not cause an electric shock.

The Eurofins Toys and Hardlines network of laboratories can help you to:

  • Gauge the electrical safety of your toys, children and furniture products
  • Ensure your products are compliant and any issues detected during the testing stage are addressed
